Litter:  The best litter we've found on the market is Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Litter.  Our findings are that the smells often are quickly absorbed.  You can also add a very small amount of baking soda for extra absorbtion.  You still will need to empty the litter box every day, but this litter will help with those orders we'd rather not smell throughout the day!

Toys:  It's very important to have toys for your cats/kittens to enjoy.  Some toys you pick out will be self entertaining for them, and others you'll want to have so you can play with your kitten and enjoy a bonding relationship with them.  Remember:  a bored cat becomes an unhappy cat, which can lead to unpleasing behavior to their owners. 

Cats on the furniture or countertops:  Some of us don't care to have our cats on the furniture.  To help with training, try some bitter apple spray.  Spray this on a wash cloth or similar item, and set it on the place where you don't want your cats to be.  This is a deterrent for them and will train them for a more desired behavior.  There are other items and sprays available in pet stores that will work as well.  Sometimes it's easier to find them in the dog training areas of some of these stores.

Scratching:  Cats have the natural tendency to scratch.  If your cat is scratching an area undersirable, make sure you gently move them to a sisal scratching post when this happens.  Do not yell or physically punish your cat, as even more undesired behavior will occur.
